Silent Threat Mission Recovery Book 1 edition by Dana Marton Romance eBooks

This is a suspenseful "who done it" story involving 2 people who could not be more opposite. What I love about Ms. Marton's writing is that she integrates LOL dialog to break up the seriousness of the story. Veterans acclimating to civilian life and suicide are very real and very important topics that need to be addressed better by our government and society. My father-in-law is a WWII vet and he still has a hard time coming to terms with what he saw and did during the war. His brother, also a WWII vet, was the same way. They both often talked of suicide and have received counseling for it which is why these types of stories always hold my interest.

I believe Ms. Marton does a great job with taking something that is out of the box and created a very interesting story around it. I believe the characters were well developed and I love H/h that are not your typical characters. Great story and I do recommend it.

Silent Threat Mission Recovery Book 1 edition by Dana Marton Romance eBooks Reviews

I loved Dana Marton's Broslin Creek series, and although it has ended, Silent Threat returns to the same community with a host of new characters to get to know and live - and a couple of old ones popping up as well.
There's a synopsis, so I won't rehash the plot. This book, although definitely a romance, does broach the very serious subject of injured soldiers, and the assistance available for their rehabilitation and reintegration to civilian society. It made me think. It doesn't seem like humanity is heading towards peace and harmony anytime soon, so perhaps we, the people they served, need to ask ourselves the question, are we doing enough to help them? Hopefully, some of the options mentioned in this book indicate that we are at least heading in the right direction. But I digress.

Although the main characters have issues and injuries to overcome, it's not a downbeat book by any means. There is an intriguing mystery and a murder to solve, and a seemingly unlikely romance to kindle. I found it very hard to put down, and I am definitely looking forward to more from this new series.
This review is a first for me… It's the first time that I've reviewed a book that I switched back and forth between listening to the audio version and reading the version. Whispersync really is pretty cool.

I loved this book – while I was reading it – so 5 stars for Dana Marton's writing; it's what I've come to expect of her books. Descriptive prose, a strong male lead and a strong female lead, although not someone who is physically strong.

I'm sorry to say that I didn't enjoy listening to this story very much. When I switched to audio my attention drifted from the book and I had to go back and read the part I'd just listened to. I can't really put my finger on it but I think I would have enjoyed this story more if the narrator had been male instead of female. I think the voice was almost too soothing. When reading the story, in my mind the story felt more suspenseful and I kind of fell in love with Cole. Hearing his words in a deep female voice just didn't really work for me that well. So, I have to give the narrator 3 stars.

I think the story starts out in kind of an unusual way – describing what happened to someone an hour before he died. I was a tiny bit confused at first but loved the way it ended up making sense later in the story. I also think that Dana did a great job of hiding the identity of the villain until she wanted us to know who it was.

The story had my heart pounding in places, breaking in others and ultimately brought it all together. Silent Threat was a thoroughly satisfying and enjoyable story to read. I'm happy to know that there will be another book in this series.

A review copy of the ebook was provided by the publisher via NetGalley but this did not influence my opinion or rating of the book.

Wow as I set down to write this I go back and reflect on what stood out, what grabbed my attention. The first things that always comes to mind bring a BIG smile to my face is when Cole goes searching the offices and comes across one office stepping back when he sees needles hanging. At this time I am laughing out loud and I cannot get that picture out of my head. It is well worth the read just to read this part of the book. If that isn’t enough it is fast pace with a little action, a touch of romance, danger, mystery of deaths and why they are dying, along with some heart break of losing a solider along with going through trying time to find yourself and wanting to be back with your team. Cole has lost part of his feeling in his one arm, deaf and has major flash backs. He has trouble dealing with day to day life. What better person to go to a rehab center for Vets where someone is leaking sensitive military information to the enemy. His boss thinks he is the best man for the job, poor Cole would rather be anywhere but here with these tree hugs. NO way NO how is he hugging any trees to get this job done. Cole was the perfect person for this mission he was in real need as he even pointed out that maybe his boss sent him here to help him work through his problems. I think it was a mixture of both. His handicaps are real, which makes him a believable person to be there. His hearing loss was an eye opener which made it hard to do the job he was given but not impossible.

Annie is the tree hugger who does amazing things for wound soldiers getting them back to nature finding their enter self and letting them find some peace to take the next step in life. She has some wonderful point that even us who read it should be able to enjoy setting ourselves a little freer getting away from our stressful lives. It doesn’t take long for her to find out Cole is going to be a handful in so many ways. There is a very strong draw to Cole even though they do not get off to a good start she gives it her all hoping she can help him find his way to a more stress free life and less nightmares. She does play a big part in the plot with her ex stalking her could he be the one who keeps leaving things for her?

I really love the tree hugging issue Cole has he has a wonderful personality, a little off humor which is good, easy to like and oh so easy to laugh with. I enjoyed watching Annie turn the tables on him bring him out a little getting him to do things her way and how she did that is amazing and fun. I liked the budding romance the easy way it flows. The mystery of who the killer is holds your attention and keeps you guessing. The way the book opens up you are left guessing if there was a murder or just an accident. The mystery of the codes getting out I try hard to work it out but I never really made it, the author had to give me a few more clues. It was really fun watching these two run in circles around each other, their misunderstanding and watching them fall over each other but keeping their distance. Suspense is wonderful filled with a few heart stopping moments. The danger of the unknown with bodies starting to add up keeping the reader guessing. One needs to remember this plot is about finding the person who is sending the codes not so much about healing the wounded. No not everyone is helped which makes it a more believable story. Some you see getting better and leaving, others it will take more time. No Cole didn’t get all better but he was better and it did help him being there. What is important is the giving of classify information and that person being taken down along with it we learn a little more about military issues of our troops of their mind and body after going through all they have. Being a military supporter and spending time with him online I can tell the author has done her home work. The way she lays the story out with their issues of coming home, starting over, wishing it was you and not your buddy that was lost, feeling helpless and alone, from the flashbacks to the nightmares she has it to a T.

The ending leaves you with your heart in your throat waiting to see the outcome. What it boils down to is the excitement, holding you on the edge, the danger, the fear, the unknown, the mystery, humor that makes this a page turner and a wonderful start to a wonderful new series.
